In the story of local craft, Charlotte Brunswick stands as one of 18th-century Bath's first and finest chocolatiers. Born into a family of merchants, she stepped into a world of discovery, growing up amongst the vibrant aromas of ingredients like Spanish citrus fruits, fragrant Chinese ginger, teas, nuts and a beautiful array of spices. Charlotte developed a deep fascination with flavour, discovering how to artfully marry ingredients to capture the unique spirit of her time. Inspired to elevate the simple Georgian chocolate of the period, she turned her passion for these flavours into a palette for discovery in her basement kitchen, blending spices, nuts and fruits to perfectly balance the traditional chocolate blocks. The result was a selection of chocolate treats that quickly became cherished and loved by residents across the city of Bath. Today, we bring her perfected creations to life through our timeless recipes.
